POKEMON RUBY REVIEW

PLOT

In this game, two ancient powers are in danger of being reawakened. These two creatures, Groudon and Kyogre, can only be controlled by the red and blue orbs. The two organizations in this game, Team Aqua and Team Magma, are aiming to either make the Earth more aquatic or increase the land mass by using one of the two Pokemon. After defeating the eight Hoenn gym leaders, the main character must try to save the day from destruction by defeating (or capturing) the legendary Pokemon of his or her game version.

The plot is just the traditional plot for a Pokemon game, with the evil team(s), a legendary or two, and the eight gym leaders. Although it's not as original as it could be, it's not completely run of the mill.

Score: 6/10

GAME PLAY

The game play is pretty good. The two goals, becoming the Hoenn League Champion and stopping Team Aqua or Magma, make for a fairly long game. There are also many things you can try to achieve after you beat the main story line of the game, such as complete your National Dex or get all of your Pokemon to level 100. There are also many different aspects to the game, aside from the main plot. You can compete in the Pokemon contest, and make it your goal to be a champion in that sense, or you can try to make a great secret base with a lot of unique and rare furniture. There are plenty of things to do with this game aside from battle the gym leaders and save the day.

The concept of capturing Pokemon makes the game different every time you play it, because you are catching different Pokemon, therefore facing different obstacles referring to battling and advantages/weaknesses. There are also many ways to limit yourself in the way you play the game, thus making it more challenging. Overall, the game has a nice replay value and takes plenty of time to complete.

Score: 10/10

GRAPHICS

The graphics, especially in comparison to the most recent Pokemon games (Gold, Silver, and Crystal) are fairly impressive. Keeping in mind that the game is on Game Boy Advance, the sprites are nice and colorful, and very clear and neat.
